Nowadays, cities, buildings, networks, public and private institutions, objects and services are generating a continuous and impressive stream of data : « Big data », « Senseable data »  and  « Open data ».
The challenge lies thus both in collecting and mapping those data to transform them into meaningful and operative insights. In order to support these critical mutations and anticipate their future forms, MorphoLab developed an innovative approach to facilitate collective architecture, city and landscape design processes.
Sets of data generated by multiple sources can help us support communities, businesses and citizens in their attempt to imagine and build new ways of fulfilling their mission, supported by our systemic and integrative model for analysis and territorial foresight.

MORPHOLAB

At the crossroads between research and technological innovation, MorphoLab is an independent research group that was created ten years ago within the National School of Architecture of Nantes (ENSA) in France. Based on the transdisciplinary observation, description and modeling of phenomena that organize our territories, our work focuses on the development of a systemic operational model. Built on an integrative, comprehensive, multidimensional and complex mapping tool, our analysis and prospective model promotes the concept of understandability and interaction between citizens and their territories.

Education

The research program developed at ENSA Nantes emerged from considerations and concerns when designing new project approaches alongside theoretical and practical developments..

Expertise

Bringing years of research, our approach adresses officials, businesses and residents’s concerns in order to provide them with tools and methods to better manage, develop and co-build the city of tomorrow.
